Training in the Northern Territory
The Department of Education and Training (DET) manages and administers programs and funding arrangements for the delivery of vocational education and training in the Territory.
DET is responsible for:
- Overseeing and funding the training of apprentices and trainees;
- Purchasing the services of public and private training providers to deliver a broad range of vocational education and training qualifications and competencies;
- Developing and managing a suite of community responsive training
initiatives, including but not limited to:
- Training for Remote Youth;
- Flexible Response Funding;
- Pre-vocational programs;
- Consulting with industry, government and the community on training needs and priorities.
DET is also responsible for efficient and effective management of regulatory functions relevant to the Northern Territory Employment and Training Act, Education Act, Higher Education Act and Australian Quality frameworks. This is achieved through:
- Administering quality and regulatory systems;
- Ensuring that training and accredited courses meet the needs of industry, community and other regulatory bodies in the NT.
